How Currency Conversion Works
Currency exchange rates represent the price of one currency in terms of another. The mid-market rate (also called the interbank rate) is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices on currency markets — it's the fairest rate available.
When you exchange money through a bank or money transfer service, they typically add a margin (spread) on top of the mid-market rate. This spread is how they earn revenue on foreign exchange transactions.
Exchange rates fluctuate constantly based on supply and demand, interest rates, inflation, political stability, and other economic factors. The rates shown here are updated daily and represent mid-market rates.
